All - Terrain Robot MK 1

E-mail Print PDF

This is the design and building of my first all -Terrain robot!

The original idea was for a beginners all-terrain robot that could easily cross rough ground and long grassy fields, nothing major. This is the first "hobby" robot that I've built since university so its been a learning curve, I'm used to industrial robotics and automation s

ystems.

I looked at a few designs that had independent suspension etc but with limited "hobby" robot experience I went simple and "cheap" so excuse me for the robots simple design.

Components.

  • Two 200W 24Vdc motors
  • Sabertooth dual channel 25amp motor speed controller
  • Two Haze 12V 44ah AGM lead acid batteries
  • Four 250mm (10") pneumatic tyres with split steel wheels
  • Two 12.7mm (1/2") drive chains
  • Four 12.7mm (1/2") sprockets
  • Eight 20mm ID floating four bolt flange bearings
  • Four axles, two motor direct driven, EN24T steel
  • 102mm (4") aluminium square hollow section
  • 500x500mm, 8mm thick aluminium plate
  • Futaba RC control.

The robot chassis, the 500 x 500mm 8mm thick aluminium plate with the sections of 102 x 102mm hollow box.
